IGN Spain completely revamped their mapping website and as part of that the URL MyTrails was using no longer works. Here is an updated map definition you can import until the next update of MyTrails:

2.1.0
This new version is an almost complete rewrite of the UI code in MyTrails, keeping the same features of 2.0 (with some new features), but bringing MyTrails into the modern Android age.
When I started developing MyTrails over 7 years ago, Android development was very crude, and developers had to include all sorts of work-arounds to add new features while still supporting Android 1.6, which was the version run by most phones at the time.
Over the years, I added features without being able to break from these work-arounds, until Nougat finally forced me to this rewrite (which I had fortunately started a few months in advance).
After 8 months of public preview and beta versions, 2.1 is finally here, with the following high-level features and hundreds of tweaks and fixes. I hope you enjoy it!
- Nougat and Oreo-compatible
- New icons and refreshed look
- Waypoint manager
- Offer troubleshooting when GPS signal is lost
- Fix USGS maps
Due to the number of changes and to avoid inconveniencing users, I’m using a staged rollout, don’t worry if you’re not getting the new version right away, it will be available in a few days, or you can download it directly.
USGS maps don’t load
Recently, the USGS maps in MyTrails haven’t been loading. This was a result of a server-side change on the map provider, and is fixed in the latest MyTrails 2.1 beta. Please upgrade to the beta to fix.
MyTrails records zigzag around my track
This means your GPS signal is noisy, which may be:
- because your GPS module is not very sensitive or misconfigured
- because of the terrain (in thick woods or canyons)
- because it’s stored at the bottom of a backpack or pocket
- because of jamming (intentional or power lines)
Once you’ve excluded the physical causes and have reset your GPS (and rebooted the phone for good measure), if the track is still showing zigzags, you can set up filtering in MyTrails by using the set kalman filter n
hidden option, where n is the approximate nominal speed in m/s, for example 1 for walking, 8 for cycling.
2.0.17
- Removed LaTrace and RandoGPS, which are no longer available
- Improve Google maps
- Suggest upgrade to MyTrails 2.1 beta for Nougat
OpenCycleMap API KEY REQUIRED
OpenCycleMap is operated by ThunderForest, a paid service. They overlay the message “API KEY REQUIRED” on their maps to encourage users to register with them.
You can create a free account and update the map definition in MyTrails > Maps > tap on the OpenCycleMap entry and edit the map URL, adding ?apikey=123abc
at the end of the existing URL, where 123abc
should be replaced with your real API Key.
The first part of the URL may also need to be changed from a.tile.opencyclemap.org
to a.tile.thunderforest.com
.

- Update current coordinates when following GPS
